• Originally part of the Wallace A. Gerbode Foundation, founded in SF in 1955, responsible for helping save Angel Island and Diamond Head national park in Hawaii; over $200 million given since inception.

• Re-defined in 2009 as a community foundation to share the gift-of-giving with those who legally own the assets, the diverse members of society as a whole.  

• Origins dating back to Hawaiian missionary heritage (cf., Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.).

• Over $9 million distributed to 834 nonprofits by 50 everyday people since its founding in May 2016.
